gienek58Hello everyone, I am about to assemble my Ikea Platsa wardrobe and want to work as efficiently and neatly as possible. Therefore, I am interested in learning which tools have proven to be especially helpful and practical. From my experience, some people find it quite difficult to work with just the included Allen key. Are there any tools beyond the standard set that make the assembly easier, faster, or more precise? Perhaps cordless screwdrivers, special bits, or even specific aids for installing hinges and pull-out drawers? I look forward to your recommendations, including any tips on what to watch out for when using these tools.
To me, these "ideal" tools for IKEA furniture always seem like a myth. You can put together almost everything with the included basic tools. It only gets really innovative when you get creative: I swear by a small magnetic bit holder on the screwdriver – and for those willing to invest, a good torque wrench is worth it to avoid damaging the wood. It might sound exaggerated, but IKEA parts aren’t just simple wooden blocks, and paying attention to your tools here will save you a lot of frustration in the end.

However, the torque wrench seems questionable to me. IKEA mostly uses cam dowels and screw connectors, which should be tightened precisely, but a torque wrench is primarily designed for delicate metal fastenings. Over-tightening can damage the wood, but in doubtful cases, it’s better to rely on feel and experience rather than complicated tools.
For assembling Platsa, I recommend the following set of tools: - A small cordless screwdriver with variable speed control and a 4mm or 5mm hex bit - A rubber mallet for gently fitting dowels and fittings - An adjustable screwdriver with flathead and Phillips bits, as some parts still include screws with slotted or flat heads - A spirit level is helpful for alignment
I would only use the supplied wrenches in an emergency, as they are usually too small and not ergonomic.

If you assemble too loosely, the cabinet wobbles; too tight, and you risk crushing the particleboard. Based on your experience, can you assess this in more detail? Is a special tool or an aid recommended to apply the right amount of torque?
