Hello everyone, I am about to start assembling my new IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets and I’m wondering which tools are absolutely essential to ensure a smooth and stable installation. Specifically, I’m interested in whether, besides a cordless drill or a regular screwdriver, there are other tools strongly recommended, for example, for precise leveling or particular assembly steps. Perhaps someone here has experience with the Metod system and can share tips on which tools definitely belong in the toolbox to avoid unnecessary frustration or rework. Thanks in advance for your support.

A clamp can be helpful for support or more precise adjustments when working alone.

Interesting point, as I mostly build on my own. The idea of using a clamp is good to hold the parts together securely. What size would you recommend here?

For the Metod system, clamps with a span of 150 to 300 mm (6 to 12 inches) are usually sufficient. These allow you to temporarily secure individual components. It is important that the clamps are not too coarse, as the material can be delicate and dents should be avoided.

A spirit level, cordless screwdriver, tape measure, a good Phillips screwdriver, and possibly a rubber mallet are sufficient. For most installations, nothing more is needed.

Just to add a bit more detail: The standard tools are usually sufficient for assembling Metod kitchens as specified. However, if the kitchen is being installed against walls that are uneven or not perfectly straight, I recommend allowing a small area for adjustment. Small wedges made of wood or special plastic shims can help prevent warping and improve the gap alignment.

Sometimes people underestimate how annoying uneven floors and walls can be. In my experience, patience and a few “small helpers” like the wedges I mentioned make all the difference because they allow for much better fine-tuning. I was often uncertain during assembly as well, but in the end, it’s enjoyable when you are well prepared with the right tools.

Thank you all for the helpful tips! To summarize, I understand that the following tools are essential for assembling the IKEA Metod system:
- Cordless drill with a Phillips bit and, if needed, other bits
- Phillips screwdriver
- Spirit level
- Tape measure or folding ruler
- Rubber mallet
- Small clamps for securing parts
- Plastic shims or wooden wedges to compensate for uneven surfaces

It seems quite manageable, and I will report back on how it went. If anyone has one last tip, feel free to share!
