Hello everyone,
I have a somewhat specific question about spare parts from IKEA, specifically for the Hemnes series. I have noticed that some furniture components, such as screws, drawer runners, or certain wooden parts, are difficult to reorder. I’m particularly interested in which spare parts you find hard to obtain for Hemnes and whether you have any tips on how to get those parts if IKEA does not supply them directly.
I would also like to know if this issue is often limited to certain assemblies and if it varies regionally—meaning whether stores in other countries or regions have better spare part availability.
I look forward to your experiences and advice!

I experienced this with my Hemnes dresser: the runners wore out after a few years and were unexpectedly difficult to obtain separately. Usually, these metal rails are available individually from other manufacturers, but IKEA either sells entire drawers or no spare parts for these components.
Another tricky spare part is often the original wooden strips, for example, the small side guide rails. If these break, the alternative is to make them yourself or have them custom-made by a local carpenter’s workshop—at least if IKEA does not offer a supply option.
It would be interesting to know if other users notice regional differences in the availability of Hemnes spare parts. In general, IKEA provides spare parts, but the practical possibilities for ordering and delivery seem to vary.

Thank you for the comments so far; they have been helpful.
My main concern was whether spare parts can sometimes be difficult to obtain in goodwill situations. I have noticed myself that customer service at IKEA can vary significantly depending on the store or country.
What I repeatedly find frustrating is needing only a small part—such as a single screw or a connector—and having to buy an entire piece of furniture because of it. A better spare parts service for Hemnes would be really desirable.

I would like to add that the issue often lies with the parts list. Although Hemnes is clearly organized, there isn’t always a definitive spare parts list available. Without this, it becomes difficult to accurately identify and order the correct part.
I recommend always noting down the item number and part description directly from the product itself and then contacting customer service or the workshop at the furniture store with this information.
Additionally, it can be helpful to look for Hemnes spare parts not only directly from IKEA but also at specialized furniture repair shops or online marketplaces.

Here is a factual summary:
- Drawer slides and smaller wooden strips (guides, decorative trims) are often difficult to obtain.
- Fasteners such as dowels and screws are generally available, but some special screws or fixings may not be.
- Spare parts lists for Hemnes are not centrally available, making it harder to order individual parts.
- Availability of spare parts varies by region. In some countries or stores, IKEA orders spare parts on behalf of customers, while in others it does not.
Anyone needing spare parts should document exactly which parts are required, ideally including article numbers, and contact customer service directly. Impulse purchases on site are usually not possible.
I agree with the recommendation to also consider external suppliers for small parts if IKEA cannot provide them.
