Hello,

I would like to install a 4m (13 feet) wide awning with a 3m (10 feet) projection on our house. Now I am considering and researching what mounting options are available. The wall structure from the outside is:

- 3mm (0.1 inch) synthetic resin plaster
- 80mm (3 inch) wood fiber insulation board
- 200mm (8 inch) mineral wool insulation
- 200mm (8 inch) timber frame construction

Of course, I would not drill into the regular exterior wall but attach the awning to the floor beam, which is located between the floors right after the 80mm (3 inch) wood fiber insulation board.

How and with what would you fasten the awning at this point?

Best regards,
Jörg

Well, simply use long thick screws directly into the wooden structure, without any dowels.

Yes, definitely, but how do I bridge the 8cm wood fiber insulation? On one hand, the screws will be subjected to quite high shear forces, and on the other hand, tightening the screws could compress the insulation. I also need to ensure the whole assembly is properly sealed...

Hm, yes, you can’t really attach anything to the insulation board, for example with a threaded rod.

I would suggest cutting out the insulation and fitting a spacer piece.

Maybe someone else has a better idea.
