I am facing the challenge of needing a narrower storage system in my small apartment, as the available space for a wardrobe is very limited. My question to the community is: Which versions of the Ikea Pax wardrobe do you think are best suited for tight spaces? I am particularly interested in information about the narrower widths, the availability of different doors and interior fittings that work well for small bedrooms or hallways. It would also be helpful to learn how flexible these versions are when it comes to customization and if there are any practical tips to make the most of the available space without the wardrobe dominating the room.

Good question! For tight spaces, the narrower depths of the Ikea Pax system, available in 50 cm (20 inches) and 75 cm (30 inches) depths, are especially suitable. Here are some important points to consider:

- 50 cm (20 inches) depth is ideal for narrow hallways or small rooms to avoid taking up too much space.
- 75 cm (30 inches) depth offers more storage but requires more room.

Widths come in 50 cm (20 inches), 75 cm (30 inches), and 100 cm (40 inches), with 50 cm (20 inches) being particularly recommended for tight spots.

For the interior, I suggest flexible shelves and drawer inserts that can be easily repositioned. This is especially practical in small rooms, allowing you to optimize the internal layout.

Regarding the doors, sliding doors are a good option when there is limited clearance in front of the wardrobe. Hinged doors need more space and are often unsuitable in confined areas.

In summary:
- Width: 50 cm (20 inches)
- Depth: 50 cm (20 inches) (for really narrow spaces)
- Doors: Sliding doors
- Interior: Flexible configuration

One more tip: the 201 cm (79 inches) height (standard Pax height) provides plenty of storage without looking too bulky, making the most of vertical space.

A depth of 50 cm (20 inches) with sliding doors is best for small rooms. It provides good storage space without any door opening issues. Usually, that is all you need.

If you want to choose the Ikea Pax system for tight spaces, you should pay close attention to a few details to make the most of your room. First, the dimensions: the 50 cm (20 inches) depth is a classic choice for narrow corridors; alternatively, you can experiment with the 58 cm (23 inches) deep wardrobes – they are slightly deeper but offer more storage space, allowing you to balance comfort and capacity.

Regarding widths: 50 cm (20 inches) wide modules can be easily combined side by side and extended flexibly. 75 cm (30 inches) wide wardrobes often don’t fit through smaller doorways, so you should carefully measure and consider the exact room height and width beforehand.

The interior layout is another crucial point, especially for narrow wardrobes: I recommend using clothes rails instead of just shelves in the narrow versions because longer garments hang better and the limited space is used more efficiently.

Also, sliding doors are a must if your space is tight; otherwise, it doesn’t make much sense.

Question: What exactly is your room height? Some people can take advantage of wardrobes that are 236 cm (93 inches) tall – this way, you get twice the storage space with the same floor area.

Thanks for the suggestion, I completely forgot to mention that: the ceiling height is about 2.45 m (8 feet), so the taller option fits comfortably. That could really help to work around the small floor plan by using the height to compensate. Do you usually go with the standard 201 cm (79 inches) or the 236 cm (93 inches) version for such purposes? How about stability and assembly with the taller version?

The 236 cm (93 inches) high Pax wardrobes clearly provide more storage space with the same floor area. They are as stable as the 201 cm (79 inches) versions but require a solid wall or enough free space for mounting supports, as the increased height raises leverage forces.

Assembly: It is recommended to carry out the installation with at least two people due to the weight and height. In confined spaces, it is also important to ensure there is enough room for safe positioning and securing.

Those who need maximum storage with minimal floor space will find the taller version to be a very good choice, provided the wardrobes can be fixed to the wall.
