Hello everyone,

I am planning to equip my small home workspace with an Ikea PAX system to keep my office supplies neatly organized and easy to access. I’m especially interested in which PAX interior fittings work best for efficiently storing various office items such as files, folders, writing materials, and electronic accessories.

Since there are many different add-ons available (e.g., various shelves, drawers, compartments, hanging rails), I would appreciate any specific experiences or recommendations on which combinations have proven most effective for office supplies.

I want to avoid having to mix or modify multiple storage solutions later on, so I’m aiming to find the optimal setup from the start that offers both enough storage space and easy accessibility.

Which PAX interior fittings or accessories would you specifically recommend for office supplies? Are there particular sizes or versions that have turned out to be especially practical? Also, how would you rate the quality and load capacity of the individual components when used for office materials?

I look forward to your expert tips and experiences!

Hello dielron,

Regarding PAX and office supplies, based on my experience, the following interior fittings work particularly well:

- Drawer inserts in various heights to keep writing utensils, cables, or small items organized.
- Shelves are ideal for heavy binders; I recommend sturdy versions with a load capacity of at least 25 kg (55 lbs).
- Clothes rails are less suitable for office materials unless you also want to store hanging files there, which works fine.
- Internal pull-outs with compartment dividers often provide flexible organization, especially for smaller equipment.

It is important to precisely measure the height of your binders and other materials beforehand so the layout fits optimally and avoids too many unused gaps. The quality of the PAX interior fittings is generally good and they withstand normal use without problems.

If you want more flexibility, I would recommend at least adjustable shelves, so you’re not restricted to fixed heights and can reconfigure the space as needed.

So, is the question specifically about customizing the PAX interior fittings to organize office supplies in the best possible way?

If that’s the case, I’d like to share some technical details that are often overlooked during planning:

- First, it’s important to distinguish between fixed and adjustable inserts. For office supplies, adjustable shelves are highly recommended, as the height of file folders and boxes can vary significantly. Make sure to use sturdy supports, preferably metal brackets, that can withstand frequent repositioning.

- Drawers with compartments can be chosen with soft-close mechanisms, which make handling smoother and extend the lifespan of the furniture.

- For larger binders or archive boxes, shelf risers or reinforced shelves are advisable. Standard shelves usually support 25-30 kg (55-66 lbs), so check the load capacity before placing heavy items.

- Sometimes it’s helpful to install clever solutions like drawer slides that allow for elegant storage of very small parts or cables without losing overall visibility.

- One question remains: Is your workspace rather small or larger? And how many different types of office supplies do you really need to store? Different layout concepts may be optimal depending on this.

The detailed planning process therefore includes precise measurements of materials, content organization, load capacity, and ease of use. Only in this way can the PAX system be used long-term without stress.

I completely agree. I’ve chosen a mix of traditional shelves for file folders and narrow drawers for office supplies. It was especially important to me that everything is within easy reach without having to dig through deep compartments.

Also, I would add that for everyday office use, the interior fittings should be sturdy and durable – even though I was sometimes unsure if the PAX system could handle my needs, it has surprisingly proven to be quite robust.

I fully agree – having the option to adjust the compartments later on saves a lot of hassle when your requirements change.

I wish you the best of luck with your planning and hope you find the perfect setup for your office needs!
