ᐅ Which fasteners are suitable for securing Ikea Pax wardrobes to drywall (plasterboard) walls?

EleugenHello everyone,
I am planning to install an Ikea Pax wardrobe system on a drywall. Since Pax wardrobes can be quite heavy, I want to make sure that the fastenings can bear the load sufficiently without damaging the wall or causing the wardrobe to fall.
My question is: Which fastening methods and materials are truly suitable for Ikea Pax wardrobes on drywall? I am thinking of special anchors, plugs, or other devices that guarantee high load capacity.
I would greatly appreciate tips from personal experience or recommendations for specific products. Advice on securing to metal studs or similar structures would also be helpful.
Thank you in advance!

Oh, very important question, especially with drywall partitions! 😃 They don’t always support as much weight as you might think.
In my apartment, I mounted the Ikea Pax using toggle anchors – these toggle bolts are a real game changer! They distribute the weight behind the drywall and hold very securely.
Important: use at least 2-3 anchors per side of the cabinet to keep everything stable. I would advise against using simple plastic anchors, as they often pull out.
Good luck with the assembly, you’ve got this!

Hey, great question! 😄
Just to add: I have also used metal anchors for drywall that expand properly inside the cavity. They are excellent for supporting heavy loads.
Very important: first check if there is a metal stud or wooden stud behind the drywall – if so, screw directly into it for even greater stability.
This way, the cabinet is not only securely supported, but the wall also benefits 😊.

The following points are important:
- Use toggle anchors (also known as toggle bolts) or metal cavity anchors that distribute the load on the back side of the drywall.
- Attach fixing points preferably to the wall stud structure (wood or metal studs) to ensure direct support in solid material.
- Ideally, use at least two anchors per side of the wardrobe to evenly distribute the weight.
Simple universal anchors are often not recommended because they have insufficient load capacity and there is a risk of them pulling out.

For reference: toggle bolts can support a load of 15 to 30 kilograms (33 to 66 pounds) per anchor in drywall, depending on the board thickness and type of load.
Ikea Pax cabinets can weigh up to 80 kilograms (176 pounds), so it is advisable to use four to six anchors with appropriate load capacity.
Alternatively, reinforcement can be installed behind the drywall, such as a wooden batten to which the cabinet can be attached.
This significantly increases safety. Direct screwing into metal studs is only possible if they are load-bearing and accessible.
