Hello, we are about to order a kitchen but cannot decide which downdraft extractor to choose.
The options are:
Bora Basic
Miele ....
Both cost around 3000 euros (approximately 3200 USD).
The Miele looks nicer, but for me it is more important that it works well and reliably.
Are there any long-term experiences?
Any recommendations with reasons?
I would really appreciate it.

Regarding downdraft extractors:
We have a Neff downdraft extractor in the kitchen, using the exhaust air version.
It works well, removing odors effectively without causing air disturbances inside the house.
We would definitely choose this option again.
The exhaust duct was embedded in the screed.

Logically, if there is heavy smoke, where is it supposed to go with a recirculation system? If the filter is large enough, it works. I’m not familiar with the system, though.A simple functionality test: Fry green herrings. If the system handles that well, it’s effective, no matter what anyone says.
We chose a recirculation system because it didn’t make sense to us to have a modern, highly airtight house and then drill a hole for the exhaust air. From what we understand, this would require installing a device that opens a window whenever the exhaust fan runs to prevent negative pressure. That seemed like too much hassle. We now have a Bora Professional (induction and teppanyaki) with the downdraft extractor in the recirculation version. Due to the season, we’ve been cooking more outside (=grilling), so we don’t yet have extensive experience, but so far we are very satisfied with the extraction performance. We haven’t even needed to run the ventilation at full power yet.

Traumfaenger8 Aug 2019 21:29We have a downdraft extractor from Gaggenau. In my opinion, it is very slim and barely noticeable between the two cooktops. The control panel in the middle operates the downdraft extractor above it. It works well and delivers good performance. Regarding boiling over: the exhaust air is drawn off sideways within the duct, not from below. There is only one insert there, so if something boils over, it flows into the removable insert which fits in the dishwasher (time required to remove approx. 15-30 seconds). The two hours of installation time mentioned earlier in a post probably refer to the installation of the entire system.
