Hello everyone,

who has experience with the combination of a centralized mechanical ventilation system, a fireplace, and an exhaust hood for the kitchen?

Is that generally possible?

Currently, we have an exhaust hood and a fireplace, and we only needed to install a contact switch on the window so that the exhaust hood only operates when the window is tilted open.

What additional measures would be required with a mechanical ventilation system?

This is something you should discuss with your chimney installer; in our case, the fresh air intake leads directly beneath the firebox.

However, when it comes to exhaust ventilation, such as for a range hood, and general ventilation, you will need to consult the district chimney sweep inspector.

What will chimney sweeps and flue cleaners do once heat pumps are the only heating systems left?
I recently saw a dog catcher who was also labeled as an energy consultant. But surely not everyone who became a chimney sweep can do that, right?

... they then check the exhaust hoods of all the houses with the extra fire burners 🙂

Smoke detector inspection, and then the heat pump houses also have a chimney sweep again.

Regarding the exhaust hood and ventilation, you will likely need to involve the local master chimney sweep.

I have contacted him by email and am just waiting to see if I get any information. Otherwise, I’ll just call next week 🙂

There are certainly similar KNX components that make this possible.
With KNX, a task like this is a training exercise, requiring virtually no devices—just a free input and output somewhere. You come up with the logic… which is included everywhere anyway.

But doesn’t everything have to be maintained regularly then?
No, it doesn’t have to. Electronics are generally maintenance-free.

Maybe our grandchildren will see that… though that’s doubtful. There will still be many properties for a very long time that aren’t really economical to heat with heat pumps.
