ᐅ Controlled ventilation system + fireplace + kitchen exhaust – does this work?

Hello everyone,

who has experience with the combination of a centralized mechanical ventilation system, a fireplace, and an exhaust hood for the kitchen?

Is that generally possible?

Currently, we have an exhaust hood and a fireplace, and we only needed to install a contact switch on the window so that the exhaust hood only operates when the window is tilted open.

What additional measures would be required with a mechanical ventilation system?

I might as well hang a TV there and play the fireplace video on it 😉

Exactly!
That's what I'm saying! 😀

If the house is very well insulated, think twice about having a panoramic fireplace. A lot of glass also means a large, sudden loss of heat. The room can overheat quickly. A masonry heater might be a better option.

Our house will be built according to the energy-saving ordinance only, no KFW funding.

I have an appointment with the stove builder tomorrow to see what he considers feasible.

Currently, in our existing house (built 2006 without mechanical ventilation), when we had to connect a stove, I needed to install a window contact switch for the extractor hood, since it’s an exhaust system and we have one of those Weibel wall boxes that only opens when the extractor hood is turned on.

For the new house, we won’t have an exhaust ventilation system anymore. The costs for the drilling and appropriate wall box will instead be invested in a good recirculation hood.

Right now, I’m having our kitchen designed by an independent planner (paid service), and he also convinced me that there are very good recirculation hoods available, and I should let go of the idea that “odors can only be removed with exhaust ventilation.”

I should receive the first drafts and appliance suggestions today. I’ll report back with his recommendations.

To conclude 🙂 we are choosing a recirculating range hood and have decided on a gas fireplace
