Hello
We are looking for suitable cabinets for our basement room.
The basement will be used as a storage and pantry area.
What cabinets would you recommend?
The cabinets do not need doors. They should provide a lot of space, and we will be storing many IKEA boxes.
The cabinets should also be quite affordable.

What did you finally decide on?
Standard heavy-duty shelving?

Jurassic13510 Apr 2023 19:53We haven’t implemented it yet, but in the end, we will use standard heavy-duty shelves from the hardware store. We already have some of those in the attic.
Ikea Ivar would be my favorite, but since this is for the shed, I’m concerned about the wood. It can get somewhat damp or wet in there.

Does anyone here have experience with these shelves?Have you actually looked at them? I might be mistaken, but aren’t these shelves more suited for living areas where you want to achieve an industrial or loft-style look? I can imagine that the finish would scratch quite easily if you put more weight on them.Jurassic135 schrieb:

Ikea IVAR would be my favorite, but since this is for the shed, I’m concerned about the wood. It can definitely get somewhat damp or wet in there. I had IVAR in the shed for two years, and nothing happened to it.
As long as it’s mostly protected from wind and rain, moisture alone doesn’t affect it.

I think we will go with the Ikea Bror shelves.
Does anyone have experience with these shelves?I would advise against the Bror shelves or at least take a very close look before buying. We bought one for our son’s student kitchen. The assembly was quite annoying. The shelves are attached to the uprights with some kind of rivet/crimp/press connection—basically hammered in. It’s impossible to easily reposition the shelves once installed. The shelf looks nice (the loft style, as Yvonne mentioned, fits well) and serves its purpose for an air fryer, microwave, and kitchen utensils, but I wouldn’t use it as a basement shelf. When it comes to flexibility, IVAR is unbeatable. We had lots of leftover parts from the children’s and living rooms and used them to outfit our pantry cellar. After more than 20 years, we are still very satisfied.

I really don’t like this compression joint.
We then have to decide between the IVAR system and standard heavy-duty shelving.
My question is: since there is an IVAR planner, why is it not possible to plan with corner parts?
Or how can I properly plan it myself to check if the dimensions will work out?
