Hello everyone,
I am currently planning the installation of my new Ikea Brimnes wardrobe and want to ensure the wall mounting is done optimally. I am especially interested in any installation tips from your experience that help achieve a secure hold, particularly regarding different wall types (e.g., concrete, drywall/plasterboard, brick) and the recommended anchors or screws.
I would also like to know if there are any special tricks for measuring and marking that make the mounting easier and help avoid incorrect holes.
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice!

I once experienced that the thin wall anchors gave way after some time with heavier shelves. That really sounds like I should replace the standard anchors from Ikea – I want to mount the cabinet securely for the long term.

When drilling, definitely use a dust catcher under the drill hole; it keeps the work area clean and prevents dust from falling into the hole, which weakens the anchor’s grip. Also a very practical tip! I don’t have a drill dust extractor – would it make sense to cover the hole with a small piece of cardboard or a rolled-up paper? What else could be improvised?
Thanks again for all your helpful advice!

Is it effective to cover the hole with a small piece of cardboard or a rolled-up paper?Yes, this can work quite well as a simple temporary solution. I have done it myself: holding a small piece of cardboard under the drilling hole is often enough to prevent dust from falling or at least to catch some of it. It’s even better if you hold a larger piece at an angle to the wall, to catch the dust and make it easy to sweep away.
You can also vacuum directly at the drill bit if you have a vacuum adapter for that. The important thing is to remove the drill dust from the hole, as it acts like a lubricant and reduces the anchor’s grip.
When drilling, I also recommend using a hammer drill with a hammer function for bricks, so you can drill easily and straight. This makes the work easier and ensures optimal anchor fastening.
One more question: Do you plan to fix the cabinet with or without contents? The weight could make installation a bit more challenging.

Thanks for all the tips, I think I’ll get stronger wall plugs, mark precisely with a spirit level, use a dust catcher when drilling, and arrange for someone to hold it. That should securely fix the Brimnes to the wall.
I’ll let you know when I’m done and whether everything went smoothly!
