Hello everyone, I am currently planning my kitchen using the Ikea Metod series and want to properly secure the countertop. I’m not entirely sure which installation steps I should definitely follow to ensure a safe and durable result. Could you please provide a detailed guide or a list of the most important steps? I am especially interested in advice on proper preparation, which screws or brackets should be used, how to check the alignment, and which common mistakes to avoid. Thanks in advance!

Hello Khaled64, Ikea recommends using the original mounting brackets and screws for the Metod countertops, as these are specifically designed for the panel thickness and material composition. They have the correct length and pre-drilled holes, ensuring a secure attachment without the risk of damaging the countertop. General furniture brackets are usually too short, or the screws are too long or too thick, which can cause cracks. Additionally, the Ikea brackets are designed to hold the panels firmly without causing tension or warping. So, my advice is to always use the original accessories.

I can only confirm that. Deviating from the recommended mounting materials significantly increases the risk of material damage or insecure attachment. Additionally, the warranty is often limited in cases of improper installation. Those who want to be on the safe side should strictly use the parts specified by Ikea.

To round off the topic: If you want to use your own fasteners, keep in mind that the screws should not be too long in order to avoid puncturing the countertop. They should also be suitable for the usually melamine-coated wood-based material, so avoid self-tapping screws like Spax, which might cause splitting. Ikea brackets are generally made of powder-coated steel, very sturdy and dimensionally stable. If you use others, they should be steel and capable of withstanding high pressure.

Summary of the main assembly steps:
- Align cabinets precisely
- Maintain a minimum gap of 8 mm (0.3 inches) from the wall
- Use brackets and screws provided by Ikea
- Tighten screws only by hand
- Check alignment intermittently with a spirit level
- Do not overtighten the countertop
That’s it.
