Hello everyone, I plan to assemble an IKEA Metod corner kitchen with corner cabinets and want to ensure that I carry out the assembly steps as correctly and efficiently as possible. I am particularly interested in which assembly steps are crucial for IKEA Metod corner cabinets to create a stable and functional base for the subsequent kitchen installation. Are there any special details or tips for assembling the corner cabinets that should be especially considered to ensure both stability and ease of further work? Which common mistakes should definitely be avoided? I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences or well-structured advice on the assembly steps!

Additionally, I would like to point out the assembly sequence. It is important to fully assemble the carcasses and check all connections before starting to install the doors or drawer fronts.

Thank you, that helps me a lot. Are there any special considerations when assembling the corner joints between the two cabinet parts? According to IKEA and others, there is often significantly less space there compared to straight units. Should you be especially careful when screwing them together, or are there any tips for better handling in this area?

Yes, precise alignment is especially important for the corner joints because otherwise the cabinets will not sit flush later, which can cause issues with the countertop or doors.

My advice:
- First, assemble both cabinet carcasses separately and position them.
- Tighten the corner connectors only lightly so small adjustments are still possible.
- Align everything gradually using a level.
- Only fully tighten the connectors once everything fits perfectly.

This helps to avoid stress on the joints. Additionally, it can be useful to slightly shorten the back panel at the corner seam if the cabinets on both sides do not fit exactly to the millimeter.

I encountered an issue with my Metod corner cabinet installation where the doors wouldn’t close properly, even though I followed the instructions. What ultimately made the difference for me was the precise adjustment of the hinges after the entire corner cabinet was assembled. So, not just the rough installation, but the careful fine-tuning using the usual 3D hinge adjustment.

It helped me to approach this calmly and patiently, adjusting the doors until they closed perfectly without any binding. In other words, don’t get frustrated and give up immediately at the first sign of a problem.

I can only agree with that. Most IKEA Metod corner cabinets are designed with hinges that allow very precise adjustment, so readjusting later is normal. This should be seen as a standard part of the installation process, not a mounting error.

I also recommend repeatedly checking the carcasses during door installation in several stages to see if they shift slightly while tightening the screws and to make any necessary adjustments accordingly.

A critical question in this context: Corner cabinet modules often include a special component—so-called "corner blocks"—which serve as connecting elements. In my experience, improper or premature tightening of the screws on these corner blocks can cause stresses that later lead to warping and fitting issues.

My recommendation: As mentioned before, loosely assembling and tightening the screws at a later stage is advisable, but has this been discussed enough here? Or should experienced DIYers rather use specific reinforcement techniques, such as additional brackets or external connectors?

I agree with that – especially for critical connection points like corner blocks. The assembly instructions already recommend this approach.

Additional reinforcements are usually not necessary and may compromise the structurally tested modularity. Exceptions apply in special cases with extra loads, although the standard installation is generally designed to be sufficient.

My clear recommendation: Follow the assembly instructions strictly and ensure precise alignment during installation, and the corner cabinets will fit perfectly.
