I am currently planning the assembly of my new IKEA PLATSA cabinet system and wanted to ask which specific assembly screws IKEA uses for PLATSA. I have found various information online referring to different types and lengths of screws – ranging from wood screws to particleboard screws and even special partially threaded screws.
This is especially important for me because I need possible replacement parts and want to ensure that the screws are strong enough to securely fix the construction. Is there an official specification for this, or can you roughly tell me which types and sizes of screws IKEA uses for PLATSA? I would be very grateful for any helpful details or explanations!

Really interesting that you bring this up! 😃 The issue with the screws is actually a bit more complex than it seems!
I’ve assembled several PLATSA modules myself and can confirm that IKEA consistently uses chipboard screws with partial threads, which provide strong hold and screw into the material well. So if you need replacements, make sure to use the thicker type, otherwise you might quickly run into stability problems! Good luck with the assembly!

Essentially, the basic assembly involves chipboard screws with partial threads, often in lengths of 35 mm (1.4 inches). For connections with metal fittings such as brackets or hinges, cross-head wood screws are typically used, usually 4x16 mm (0.16x0.63 inches).
I recommend checking with the official IKEA customer service for replacement parts, as the screws are specifically matched for the modular construction system.

Do you happen to know whether these screws are galvanized or stainless steel? I would like to understand how the screws react to moisture or during adjustments in use. This is particularly relevant for the PLATSA cabinets, which can be placed in humid rooms.
