Stupid question: Do you buy the rug large enough so that the sofa stands on it, or do you just place the rug in front of the sofa? Because in the latter case, it would be much cheaper and there would also be a bigger selection. But does it still look good then?

Why would anyone still need carpet nowadays? Is it just a kind of decoration, or does it have a deeper purpose?
With underfloor heating, it can only be decorative. In older buildings, I can maybe see it providing some foot warmth, but otherwise?

PS I’m currently getting ads for flaschenpost – a beverage delivery service in Düsseldorf (but I don’t even live there).

Of course, it’s decorative but also great for cuddling on. We often lounge around on the floor, play games, tease the cat, and so on.

Ok... I can only remember that we had the usual oriental-style rugs in the living room and under the dining table. Both at my grandparents’ and my parents’ places. As a child, I actually didn’t like them much because you couldn’t really see the beautiful hardwood floor anymore 😉 They were huge, at least the 3x4m (10x13 feet) size you want, and I don’t even want to know how much they cost.

If you spend a lot of time sitting on the floor without underfloor heating, then I understand the need 🙂 I assume you’ve already checked out the really big furniture stores, right? They usually vary locally—around here we have Porta and Zurbrüggen, in Munich I’d go to Segmüller. But of course, call ahead to see if they have anything in that size before you visit.

We have the carpet only in front of the sofa, approximately 1.20 x 1.70 m (4 x 5.5 ft). We chose a particularly low pile carpet so the robot vacuum can easily pass over it.
