Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble my new Ikea Metod kitchen next week and am looking for tool recommendations to make the process as quick and efficient as possible. Ideally, I prefer tools that you might already have at home or that are inexpensive to obtain. I’m especially interested in advice for screwing, drilling, and fixing during the assembly, as well as any tips to avoid common difficulties. Does anyone have experience with tools that really save time or make the assembly easier? Thanks in advance for your helpful tips!

If possible, get a helper to hold things in place – it makes the process much more relaxed.

Absolutely right, having a second person especially helps to secure large panels while screwing, which makes the work much easier and safer. It also significantly reduces the risk of parts tipping over, saving time. Additionally, I would like to add that for longer screws, having a screw gauge ready can be useful to ensure no screw is too long, which could damage the material.

What works wonders for me: a screwdriver with an LED light, so you can clearly see where the screw needs to go, even in darker corners.

That sounds very practical, especially since my kitchen at home is a bit shady. How about the accessory set for the cordless screwdriver? Is it enough to use the bits provided by Ikea, or is it better to invest in a separate set? Also, regarding the torque settings: what values are recommended to avoid damaging the Metod components?

Basically, the quality of the Ikea bits is adequate for a one-time assembly, but high-quality bits tend to last longer and usually fit better in the screw head. If you plan to assemble furniture more frequently, investing in better bits is worthwhile. Regarding torque: Many Metod screws need to be tightened within the range of 2 to 4 Nm (1.5 to 3 ft-lb) – here, the torque clutch on the screwdriver helps prevent over-tightening and thus avoid damaging the panels.
