Elisha48Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble my new Ikea Metod kitchen next week and am looking for tool recommendations to make the process as quick and efficient as possible. Ideally, I prefer tools that you might already have at home or that are inexpensive to obtain. I’m especially interested in advice for screwing, drilling, and fixing during the assembly, as well as any tips to avoid common difficulties. Does anyone have experience with tools that really save time or make the assembly easier? Thanks in advance for your helpful tips!
For a quick Ikea Metod assembly, I recommend the following tools: - A cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque and clutch settings to prevent over-tightening the screws. - A set of short bits (Phillips PH2, sometimes Torx T20) with a magnetic tip to make handling easier. - A rubber mallet for gently tapping wooden dowels in without causing damage. - A tape measure and a spirit level for proper alignment and accurate measurements. - A ratchet strap can help stabilize parts during fastening. It is important not to operate the screwdriver too fast, so the screws engage properly and the threads do not strip. These tools are efficient and reduce a lot of unnecessary rework.
I can only agree with pikin and would like to add: Be sure to use a suitable work surface, such as blankets or a sturdy mat, to prevent scratches on the fronts. For drilling, special tools are usually not necessary, as the holes are often pre-drilled. It’s a good idea to have a ratcheting screwdriver on hand just in case the cordless drill runs out of power or if you need more precise control. And above all: planning is key – organize all the parts beforehand, and the assembly will go much more smoothly.
The assembly can become really stressful if you’re not prepared. What helped me most was having the right tools ready and taking short breaks in between. People often underestimate how physically demanding it is to screw and hold the heavy parts. Tip: If possible, get a helper to hold the pieces – this makes the process much more relaxed. And sometimes a cordless screwdriver is convenient, but for precise small parts, a good manual screwdriver is enough.
What works wonders for me: a screwdriver with an LED light, so you can clearly see where the screw needs to go even in darker corners. And extra tips for making it more enjoyable: a pair of gloves for a better grip while holding and screwing, plus always having a small music playlist to boost the mood. Speaking of tools, besides the standard ones, I like to keep a small magnetic pickup tool handy – it makes collecting dropped screws easy without a long search. This way, the assembly process practically feels like a dance!
