Hello everyone, I recently assembled an IKEA METOD cabinet frame with doors, but unfortunately, the doors on my cabinet don’t close flush. This means the doors aren’t aligned evenly on the same plane, there are uneven gaps, and in some spots, it looks like the doors touch or are slightly offset. I have already adjusted the hinges several times, but without a satisfactory result. My question is: What can I do if IKEA METOD cabinet doors don’t close flush? Are there any special tips or adjustments that might not be obvious right away? And could it also be related to the wall or the cabinet placement causing the doors to be misaligned? I look forward to your advice and experiences, thanks in advance!

I know that problem all too well – it’s really frustrating when you’ve built everything and then see that the doors just won’t fit properly.

Sometimes it also annoys me when you’ve done everything correctly and the doors still hang crooked. I would recommend checking the hinges very carefully to make sure they are all adjusted the same way. Especially the middle hinges on double doors often cause slight misalignments.

Did you get the feeling that the cabinet frame itself might not be perfectly level or that the wall it’s placed against isn’t completely straight? That can also cause issues like this. It’s also important that the cabinet is properly leveled on the floor because if it wobbles, it often affects the door alignment.

Hang in there, there is usually a solution – you just need to be patient and go through everything step by step. You’re not alone with this issue!

Hey Patrick45, I know exactly what you mean! I had the same issue with my Metod cabinet but managed to fix it myself in the end! 😊

The important thing is to first loosen all the screws on the door hinges and roughly align the doors. Then you can carefully use the adjustment screws to fine-tune the door alignment – with METOD, this is really very flexible!

Don’t get frustrated too quickly during the adjustment; it can take a bit of time, but with patience, you’ll get it done!

Good luck, you’ve got this! 🎉

Regarding the issue with IKEA METOD cabinet doors not closing flush, I recommend the following systematic approach:

- Check if the cabinet carcass is built square and placed on a level surface.
- Adjust the hinges. They offer three adjustment options: horizontal, vertical, and depth.
- For uneven gaps, adjustable spacers can also be helpful if used.
- Inspect whether any door is warped, which can occur due to moisture or defects.
- Verify that the assembly instructions were fully followed, including correctly tightening the screws.

A common mistake is overtightening screws before the carcass is precisely aligned, which can cause stress later on.

In summary, the cause is often a combination of carcass alignment and fine hinge adjustment.

First, check if the cabinet is truly level. Place a spirit level on it.

Then adjust the hinges to raise, lower, or move the doors sideways.

Sometimes tightening or loosening the screws slightly can also help align the doors better.

Could it also be due to the wall or the positioning that the doors are not properly aligned?

Hello Patrick45! Yes, that can indeed be a cause. If the wall is not straight or the cabinet is not firmly positioned, it will directly affect the cabinet doors. The METOD hinges are flexible but have their limits.

I recommend:

- Check the cabinet frame and, if necessary, adjust it with shims or wooden wedges
- Use a spirit level to check the wall
- Try all three adjustment options on the hinges

If the cabinet frame seems warped, it should be corrected before adjusting the doors.

With a bit of patience, you can get it under control. If you’d like, I can also write you a step-by-step guide on how I did it myself.
