Hello everyone, I have a problem with one of the doors on my BILLY shelf not closing properly. The door still seems to be hanging mostly on the hinge side, but when I close it, it either leaves a small gap or only closes with significantly increased force, which is very inconvenient for daily use.

I have already tried realigning the door and adjusting the hinge a bit, but so far it hasn’t provided a satisfactory solution.

Are there any proven tricks or common causes when a BILLY door doesn’t close properly? What should I pay attention to, which screws are critical, or how exactly can the door be aligned optimally?

I look forward to tips and experiences from you.

Are there differences between the hinge models in BILLY as well?

Yes, there are indeed. There is the standard hinge set, which mainly consists of two screws for attaching the door and three for adjustment. You can easily adjust it with a regular Phillips screwdriver.

For most adjustments, you don’t need a special screwdriver. The screws are usually manufactured with more precision so that changes can be made with millimeter accuracy.

how much play is actually possible in the hinges

It should be as minimal as possible. Play in the mounting at the cabinet carcass is not ideal and often indicates stripped screws or damage to the wood. In this case, it can help to replace the screws or reinforce the holes with wood glue and small wooden shims before screwing them in again.

If the shelf has been in use for a long time, wood wear particles may have increased, causing play. Then a readjustment and stability check are sometimes unavoidable.
