jepikauI am planning to get an Ikea Pax wardrobe soon and I have some questions about transporting this piece of furniture. Specifically, I want to know the dimensions and weight I should expect, whether it can be transported fully assembled, or if it must be disassembled. Additionally, I would like to know the best way to protect the delicate parts, such as the wardrobe doors or fittings, to prevent damage during transport. Are there also any tips regarding the type of vehicle for transport or tools that can make moving it easier? I look forward to detailed answers and personal experiences!

how to best secure delicate parts, such as cabinet doors or fittings, to avoid transport damage. This is really an important point, as I know the feeling when you discover small scratches or broken fittings after transport – very frustrating! I would recommend removing the doors and protecting them with bubble wrap or sturdy blankets. Also, it’s best to pack the fittings in bags and secure them firmly. From my first experience with the Ikea Pax system, I learned that it’s better to be safe and wrap everything well. Unfortunately, the unit is quite bulky, so it’s a good idea to have someone to help, especially when loading.

whether the wardrobe can be transported fully assembled or if disassembly is absolutely necessary. That depends greatly on your transportation options. For the Pax wardrobe, I strongly recommend at least removing the doors and all detachable parts. Ideally, a complete disassembly is better because the individual components are easier to handle. Additionally, this allows for more precise packing and better protection of sensitive surfaces, for example with moving blankets or foam padding.
Another important aspect is ensuring the measurements fit: a fully assembled Pax is usually quite wide and tall, often over 200 cm (79 inches) in height. Therefore, you should check if your van or station wagon can accommodate these dimensions. Transporting it lying down is possible, but be careful about stress on the parts.
As a tip: use straps or tie-downs during transport to prevent movement, especially when using open vehicles or trailers.
Can you tell me the size of your vehicle and whether you plan to transport the wardrobe fully assembled or want to disassemble it?

Can you tell me the size of your van and whether you want to transport the cabinet fully assembled, or do you plan to take it apart?Thank you, that is a very helpful approach. I will be using a private trailer measuring 2.5 m (8 feet 2 inches) in length and about 1.5 m (5 feet) in width. The cabinet is 236 cm (7 feet 9 inches) tall and approximately 100 cm (3 feet 3 inches) wide. My plan is to at least remove the doors but keep the main body mostly assembled. Are there risks that the carcass might get damaged this way? Or would it be better to disassemble the cabinet completely? I am uncertain whether the construction is sturdy enough to withstand movement during transport.
An Ikea Pax carcass is generally quite unstable when partially assembled for transport because the side panels and back panels mainly provide stability.
- Always remove doors and shelves, as moving parts can get damaged.
- Completely disassembling the carcass is recommended for long transport distances or if the furniture needs to be moved frequently.
- If you want to transport the carcass assembled, make sure it is well secured and avoid any unnecessary jolts.
- For protection: use edge protectors on the corners and thick blankets or foam padding between the furniture and the vehicle.
The trailer must be suitable for the height, as 236 cm (7 ft 9 in) often causes issues when passing through garages or under bridges.
The risk: angled movements can loosen the dowel connections. Transport should be carried out by at least two people to prevent tipping over.
