Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the challenge of assembling my Ikea Platsa units in my rental apartment while trying to fully respect the rental conditions. I am looking for installation methods that leave little to no permanent marks, as the walls must not be damaged (e.g., no plugs or screws that remain).

What options are generally available in this regard? Do you have experience with adhesive systems, no-drill fastenings, or special mounting methods that are still secure and stable enough? How is the load-bearing capacity of the Platsa units with such solutions?

I would appreciate any practical tips as well as information about the advantages and disadvantages of the different methods. Thanks in advance!

Hey erwin53, great that you’re thinking this through before just drilling! 😄 There are some really cool alternatives for installing PLATSA units in rental apartments!

- Hook-and-loop tape or strong adhesive strips can be enough for lightweight pieces, but they’re only somewhat stable.
- Many people use so-called “no-drill” fittings that hold in place by tension between floor and ceiling.
- There are also special mounting profiles that attach to the wall without drilling, for example with strong adhesive pads or spring clips.

You always have to consider the weight of the furniture – of course, these solutions won’t support as much load as firmly screwed installations.

Just give it a try; there are many different options, and you’re sure to find something that fits! Good luck, and feel free to report back on what you try! 👍

This is an important point!

Here is a structured overview for installing PLATSA elements in rental apartments without causing permanent damage:

- Use adhesive strips or mounting profiles (e.g., 3M Command Strips plus compatible rails): suitable for light to medium-weight items, allows relatively easy removal without leaving marks.

- Avoid drilling into walls by using tension rods between floor and ceiling: a rod is stretched between floor and ceiling, and the PLATSA shelving system is fixed to it. This provides better load capacity without creating drill holes.

- Use adjustable furniture legs: these can help support the furniture against the ceiling or floor, ensuring stable standing.

- A combination of adhesive methods and mechanical support often offers the best compromise between stability and rental security.

Important: Always check before installation whether the wall surface is suitable for adhesive mounting (e.g., no textured wallpaper with unevenness). Also, maximum weight limits must be assessed according to the mounting method and manufacturer specifications.

Finally: Before returning the rental, carefully remove all fittings and clean any residues with suitable products to avoid issues with the landlord.

Hope this helps!

I just wanted to quickly mention that I recently faced a similar situation myself and honestly wasn’t sure how to secure my PLATSA without drilling holes.

What helped me was actually a combination of adhesive strips and a light anchoring with ceiling supports – but I was always a bit nervous about whether it would really hold. I understand wanting to be cautious in a rental apartment because you don’t want to cause any damage.

I would also recommend always consulting with your landlord if possible. Sometimes more is allowed than you think, or there might be arrangements where holes are filled when you move out.

So, I want to encourage you: There are definitely options, and you’re not alone!

For secure mounting in rental apartments, I recommend options with tension rods fixed between the ceiling and floor. No drilling needed, good for heavy items. Adhesive systems are usually only suitable for lightweight parts.
