Marekchen21 Jul 2020 14:07Hello everyone, I have a question regarding the warranty terms for IKEA Brimnes products. Specifically, I am interested in the duration of the warranty on this furniture series, which types of damage or defects are covered, and what conditions must be met to claim the warranty. Are there differences depending on whether the item is used for private or commercial purposes, and is it possible to extend or cancel the warranty? I am also curious about how IKEA handles complaints exactly and if there are any special care and usage instructions that need to be followed to ensure the warranty remains valid. Thanks in advance for your insights and experiences!
The warranty for IKEA BRIMNES products is generally 10 years, provided the furniture item has been used according to the assembly and care instructions. The warranty covers material and manufacturing defects but does not cover visible wear and tear, damage caused by improper handling, or normal signs of use. It is important that the furniture is used in a private household; for commercial use, the warranty period is usually shorter or may not apply.
In case of a complaint, the purchase receipt should be presented, and IKEA customer service should be contacted. They will check if the warranty applies. Often, a replacement or repair is offered. IKEA does not officially offer warranty extensions.
Instructions for proper care, such as avoiding moisture damage or harsh cleaning agents, are crucial to maintaining warranty claims.

At this point, I would like to clarify the often-cited statement about the "10-year warranty." Although the warranty covers material and manufacturing defects, the exact scope and conditions are defined in more detail in IKEA’s warranty terms. A crucial aspect here is the distinction between warranty and statutory guarantee.
This limitation is important because, with furniture like BRIMNES, the duration and manner of use can vary greatly. Additionally, the question arises as to how exactly IKEA determines whether damage was caused by "improper" use. I recommend insisting on a written warranty clause when purchasing and, if necessary, obtaining clarification from IKEA in advance. Especially in cases of commercial use, it is advisable to clarify this, as the warranty often does not apply from the outset.

I can only say that, personally, I had a very positive experience with IKEA’s service regarding a defective BRIMNES wardrobe. After one drawer stopped closing properly, I contacted them by phone. The defect was acknowledged, and I received replacement parts without any hassle.
I can confirm that I used the wardrobe solely for private purposes, and this was accepted as such. It is really important to keep the receipt and report the issue promptly. I also got the impression that IKEA strives to support its customers. Maybe the experience is different with other products or issues, but my advice is: don’t hesitate to call and explain the situation.
