Currently, I am curious about the average lifespan of IKEA Platsa furniture. Specifically, I am interested in everyday durability: How long do the individual components, such as shelves, cabinets, or drawers, typically last with normal use? Of course, assembly, materials, and maintenance play a role, but I am looking for practical experience and reliable assessments. Has anyone used this system for several years, and how do stability and functionality hold up over time? Are there known weak points that tend to reduce its lifespan? It is important to me that the responses provide a realistic picture—so not just extreme positive or negative cases, but an average evaluation that can be applied to regular daily use.
Hey everyone, I just wanted to chime in because I’ve had Platsa for 6 years now and I’m still pretty satisfied. Of course, as andre3 and kasan already mentioned, the screws and hinges are the weak points, especially if you take furniture apart and rebuild it often. But with a bit of care, like regularly checking the screws and handling it gently, you can really get a lot of use out of it.
Still, if you’re in a hurry, you shouldn’t assemble or reassemble these pieces half-heartedly, because it will come back to bite you quickly.
Layla schrieb:That sums it up well! My PLATSA furniture does show some signs of wear, but it still works perfectly. You have to look at it this way: IKEA created a flexible system that isn’t meant to replace high-end furniture, but for the price, it offers quite decent quality.
For me, it’s a mix of "good enough for medium-term use" and "you shouldn’t expect too much heavy-duty performance."
