Hello everyone, I have an issue with my Ikea Brimnes wardrobe doors. Recently, they stopped closing properly; they get stuck and sometimes don’t close fully. I have already checked if something is caught in the frame, but I suspect it’s more likely a problem with the mechanism or possibly the hinges. The doors seem slightly warped or might be sagging a bit, which is preventing them from closing smoothly. Has anyone experienced this problem? What specific steps can I take to get the BRIMNES doors to close correctly again? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sometimes dust or small foreign particles accumulate, which can hinder proper closing. A slightly warped door can often be improved by inserting thin cardboard strips on the hinge side or by adjusting the strike plate position. If the effort is justified, it makes sense to remove the doors completely and readjust the hinges at the bottom.
I can understand how annoying a cabinet can be when the doors don’t close properly! Sometimes it feels like you turn all the screws, but nothing gets better. I would recommend testing the door occasionally and not adjusting too much at once. For me, it helped to let the adjustments settle overnight and then fine-tune again. A bit of patience usually pays off.

What exactly should I keep in mind to avoid making the door adjustment worse?I understand that well; the fear of making things worse is justified. Important: Use a small Phillips screwdriver to carefully tighten or loosen the hinge screws in small increments. Sometimes a quarter turn is enough to noticeably improve the closing. It also helps if you do not adjust the door alone, if possible. A second person can more easily assess how the door fits.
In summary, I recommend the following steps if the BRIMNES door does not close properly:
- Check the hinge screws and tighten them if necessary
- Remove the doors and check for any warping
- Inspect the hinges for damage and adjustment options
- Check if the cabinet body is level
- Perform fine adjustments of the hinges in all directions
- If problems persist, replace the hinges
These steps follow the mechanical basics for proper door function and help prevent further damage.
