Hello everyone, I would like to start a discussion on the topic: What design ideas are there for IKEA Platsa in the living room? I am planning to furnish my living room individually with the PLATSA modular system to make the best use of storage space while creating a modern, cozy look. I am especially interested in creative layouts, color schemes, and combinations with other furniture or elements. Are there any proven concepts or tips on how to make PLATSA flexible, functional, and visually appealing? I would appreciate experience reports and concrete suggestions.
Regarding expandability: The great thing about Platsa is that the system is based on standardized widths and heights. This allows you to connect additional modules with the same depth as you like and create new rows. For TV furniture, a depth of 40 cm (16 inches) is ideal, as this matches the standard size of many devices and ensures sufficient air circulation. Additionally, you should always include ventilation slots or open compartments behind closed elements. Some also use low feet to create a small air gap at the bottom. A tip for expansion: design your basic layout so that modules can be added later on one side or at the top.
I just wanted to say that I also felt unsure about PLATSA at first because the system is so flexible. But my approach was not to try to plan everything perfectly from the start – instead, to adjust and expand step by step. This way, I could calmly try out what works best, and the whole thing stays dynamic and simple.
From my experience, it helps to use the same types of doors and handles for extensions – this keeps the look consistent.

And if you ever get tired of the classic white doors, how about colored handles or interchangeable handles? A small change can make the furniture look like new. One Christmas, I installed red handles, and it immediately gave the living room a cheerful little boost 😊.
