Hello everyone,

I am planning to assemble a kitchen unit soon using the IKEA Metod system and wanted to ask the community in advance: What are the most common installation errors with the METOD modules, and how can these mistakes be specifically avoided? I often notice that especially with more complex kitchens, time-consuming corrections become necessary—whether due to crooked cabinets, incorrectly fitted fittings, or issues with the drawer slides. I am particularly interested in practical tips and potential pitfalls that beginners often overlook. Maybe you also have experience with which tools or approaches make the assembly easier or lead to better stability. Thank you for your support!

I have noticed that many people do not properly adjust the hinges when installing cabinet doors. This often causes frustration for me when the doors do not close flush.

It is very helpful to carefully adjust the hinges according to the instructions after fully assembling the carcasses and to gently check the front panels again. And: don’t get discouraged if it’s not perfect on the first try. Every step brings you closer to the goal.

The common issues often are: misaligned base cabinets, especially when the floor is not completely level.

That hits the nail on the head. If I may add: It is important to check the floor with a straightedge or a long spirit level before positioning the units.

Additionally, applying carpet pads or special furniture shims is recommended to compensate for unevenness and to prevent later misalignments.

Check floor leveling and compensate with shims if necessary

This advice is especially practical and should be followed by everyone assembling METOD.

I would like to add an important point: use the supplied fasteners in the correct order and apply the recommended torque. Many people overtighten the anchors or strip them by using the screwdriver incorrectly, which compromises stability.

Additionally, it is important to ensure that the cabinets are not loaded prematurely before all locking screws are installed.

Furthermore, I recommend using only original IKEA tools or tools with similar precision, as cheap screwdrivers often damage the screw heads.
