Hello everyone,

I am planning to assemble a kitchen unit soon using the IKEA Metod system and wanted to ask the community in advance: What are the most common installation errors with the METOD modules, and how can these mistakes be specifically avoided? I often notice that especially with more complex kitchens, time-consuming corrections become necessary—whether due to crooked cabinets, incorrectly fitted fittings, or issues with the drawer slides. I am particularly interested in practical tips and potential pitfalls that beginners often overlook. Maybe you also have experience with which tools or approaches make the assembly easier or lead to better stability. Thank you for your support!

Hi iraklis10,

Great question! From experience, assembling a Metod unit can be tricky. The usual issues are misaligned base cabinets, especially when the floor isn’t completely level. This often causes doors to stick or drawers to jam. My advice: always check carefully with a spirit level first, and if needed, use small wooden shims instead of drilling right away.

Also, those small screws that sometimes seem to turn only half a turn—it's best to initially tighten them lightly until everything fits properly, then gradually tighten them fully. It requires a delicate touch; otherwise, the furniture can become frustratingly warped.

Tools: A good cordless drill with a torque limiter is invaluable, and a angle finder is extremely helpful. That’s the way to keep everything straight and fully functional 👍.

Typical mistakes:
- incorrect installation sequence
- not checking if the substrate is level
- screws tightened too much or too little

Avoidance:
- always read the instructions completely
- sort components beforehand
- align before tightening

A common source of errors with IKEA Metod is the inaccurate alignment of the cabinet carcasses, which leads to crooked fronts and problems with door closure. A careful approach using precise measuring tools is essential.

The following specific measures can help:
- Use a high-quality spirit level and/or a laser angle tool for alignment
- Check floor leveling and compensate if necessary with shims or wedges
- Partially tighten screws first to allow fine adjustment of positions before fully securing them
- Avoid putting weight on the cabinet before it is completely assembled and aligned

It is also important to pay attention to the correct installation height and adjustment of the drawer runners. Small adjustment screws can be crucial here to prevent binding.

- Cabinets are often crooked due to uneven floors.
- Do not fully tighten screws until everything fits properly.
- Adjust drawer alignment using the included adjustment screws.
- Follow the instructions carefully.

Very important: Patience! 😊

Last year, I completely installed my kitchen using Metod, and the biggest mistake I made was working too quickly. Tip: Take your time to level everything properly, and keep checking with a spirit level and square. It's surprising how small misalignments can cause major problems later on!

And if you’re unsure, get some simple tools like small wooden wedges and a better tape measure. That way, the assembly goes much more smoothly, and the result will be rock solid!
