Hello everyone, I am planning to assemble some IKEA Platsa units for my home myself and am wondering which tools have proven to be particularly effective and useful in practice.
I am mainly interested in which hand tools or power tools significantly ease or speed up the assembly without damaging the components. For example, are there specific types of screwdrivers, drill bits, or accessories that are essential when working with PLATSA?
Tips on accessories such as clamps, measuring tools, or similar items would also be very helpful—especially if they relate to the typical assembly steps for PLATSA.
I look forward to your experiences and recommendations so I can avoid unnecessary mistakes during assembly and work efficiently.

For Platsa, a cordless drill with adjustable torque is truly the most essential tool. This helps prevent damage to chipboard.
Additionally, you should have a tape measure and a rubber mallet ready.
Manual screwdrivers are useful for precision work, but not for the entire assembly.

Are there alternatives to minimize the risk using simple tools? To reduce the risk when assembling PLATSA with basic tools, I clearly recommend:
- Always start screws by hand and carefully pre-drill if possible
- Use a high-quality Phillips screwdriver with an ergonomic handle
- Avoid applying excessive force, as the material is not solid wood
- Assemble components on a soft surface to prevent scratches
Even better control can be achieved with an inexpensive cordless drill/driver that at least has basic torque settings. It doesn’t cost much but is definitely worth it.

Additionally, a small pair of pliers can be useful for fitting metal connectors occasionally.
Depending on the height of the project, a practical step ladder can also make assembly much easier.
I recommend preparing all tools beforehand and allowing some time for planning.
