Hello everyone, I am planning my new kitchen using the Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets and looking for good tips on optimal storage solutions within them. The cabinets offer many possibilities, especially through the different internal fittings and height-adjustable shelves. I am particularly interested in how you make the most efficient use of storage space to keep things organized and improve clarity. It would also be helpful to get advice on which organizing solutions have proven effective, for example with dividers, shelves, or special inserts. What experiences do you have with the combination of cabinet types and storage systems in Metod? Are there any tricks for placing large pots, long cutting boards, or many small kitchen utensils in a practical way? Thanks for your recommendations!

Hi Jana3, great and important question! Metod is really quite flexible, which I like about it. For maximum organization, I always recommend a mix of drawers with dividers and pull-out shelves; that way you can easily access everything without any chaos. 😄

What I also like to do: in wide base or tall cabinets, I often use roll-out storage bins that you can simply pull out—perfect for pantry items or baking supplies.

I’ve had good experiences with full-extension drawers here—you can really see everything at a glance, and there are great inserts specifically for cutlery or pots. This lets you stack large pans while keeping them separate, which saves a lot of space.

Try using shallow cutlery trays plus a flexible shelf insert in the middle for small utensils—this keeps things organized. Enjoy getting everything in order!

As an addition: An important point with Metod cabinets is to make the best use of the height through adjustable shelves or internal drawer solutions.

- Use the inside of cabinet doors for flat storage like knife racks or spice holders. This saves shelf space.
- In tall cabinets, installing pull-outs that fully access the deep storage space is worthwhile. This is especially helpful for heavy pots or appliances.
- For cutting boards, I recommend vertical holders or special slot systems so they don’t lie flat on top of each other and are easy to grab.

I fully agree, this combination is very efficient.

Additionally, you should purposefully expand IKEA's interior fittings, for example with organizers for cups or stackable bowls that are specifically tailored to the cabinet dimensions.

Hello Jana3 and all interested parties, I would like to provide a structured guide on how to set up storage ideally in Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets:

1. Planning cabinet types: First, consider the purpose of each cabinet (e.g., base cabinet vs. tall cabinet) and arrange the interior fittings accordingly.

2. Choosing interior fittings: Use the interior fittings offered by Ikea, such as pull-out shelves, inner drawers, cutlery trays, bottle holders, or plate racks.

3. Using height adjustment: Adjust the shelves based on the height of the items – larger pots require more space between shelves, while smaller utensils need less.

4. Integrating additional systems: Add special inserts, for example for spices, cutting boards, or lids, which are available from Ikea or third-party suppliers.

5. Optimizing access: For hard-to-reach cabinets (e.g., at the bottom), full-extension drawers or pull-out trays are especially practical. This helps prevent items from being forgotten at the back.

6. Maintaining order: Use dividers or modular inserts in drawers to separate different items and keep them easily accessible.

A common mistake is to arrange storage by feel without using long-term practical organization systems. Therefore, it is worth trying out different options at home.

I can only agree with that – and add that it makes sense to attach these holders to the inside of the cabinet doors to make optimal use of the available space.

I hope this helps everyone with their implementation!
