Dinar44Hello everyone, I have a topic that’s been on my mind lately: What alternatives are there if you can’t get replacement parts for the Besta system from IKEA?
A few months ago, I bought a Besta shelving unit, and now one of the drawer runners has broken. Unfortunately, the original parts are currently unavailable at IKEA, and I don’t want to replace the entire piece of furniture.
My question is for anyone who might have faced similar issues or knows where to find suitable replacement parts or comparable solutions. Are there third-party providers, DIY methods, or compatible alternative parts from other manufacturers?
I look forward to your experiences or tips, as I imagine replacement parts for IKEA furniture can be a common problem.

I would like to explore this topic in more detail. If IKEA does not have replacement parts available for the Besta system, there are several practical alternatives:
- First, it is advisable to document the exact dimensions and functions of the missing parts. This makes it easier to compare with third-party components.
- Hardware stores often offer compatible furniture fittings and rails that function mechanically in a similar way but can vary in price and quality.
- DIY solutions: damaged parts can be repaired yourself or suitable brackets can be made using plastic sheets and small screws.
- Online communities or forums often have recommendations for specialized suppliers offering reproduction or replacement parts.
- Another option is to contact professional carpentry workshops, which can often assist with precisely fitting solutions.
It is important to pay attention to the load capacity of alternative parts to ensure the shelf does not lose stability.

I’ve often taken matching rails from the hardware store and installed them using little tricks. It doesn’t always have to be perfect like Ikea, as long as it’s stable and functional.

Hardware store rails are often universally compatible, especially with standard drawer slides.
Last week, I simply bought used older Besta parts on eBay for a similar problem. This way, I got original replacements even though IKEA had nothing in stock.
If anyone thinks used parts aren’t good – most of the time, they are still in excellent condition since such furniture is often barely used.
