My Bosch Logixx 6 washing machine just stopped working with error code 08. That's all I needed! Does anyone happen to know what this error means? Online, it says something like "No signal from the motor tachogenerator." If it's a motor failure, is it worth calling a technician, or should I just buy a new one? 🙁

The economic argument unfortunately only works in the ideal case. A refrigerator that only pays off after 10 years is not an incentive for me.
I agree with ecology. I bet it’s more eco-friendly to use the old appliance until the end. More eco-friendly than buying new? Because buying new may save electricity, water, or who knows what, but it requires new production, which consumes electricity, water, and so on, and the old one has to be disposed of, which is not free either. That’s why my friend drives a BMW 520i with already half a million kilometers (about 310,000 miles) on it — that’s eco-friendly! Karsten

Not because it says Miele on it, but because it lasts. If it didn’t last, no one would pay that price for the machine anymore. That’s why I assume it’s good quality.

In my experience (yes, they are the "older" models), this brand keeps breaking down, and repairs are very expensive. I think they rely mostly on their reputation and the older generation. I don’t see any innovation (for the younger generation 😉) there either.

With experience like that, I would also buy Siemens for half the price [emoji3] But our old one is still working fine

It’s alarming how normal it has become for many people to live in a throwaway society. Basically, I’m in favor of progress, but not at the expense of the environment. If washing machines only last 5 years now, manufacturers should be forced to take them back.

That’s actually a good idea. If the machine stops working, I’ll take the device to Bosch and throw it right at their feet! 😡

Funny enough, my father-in-law from the former East Germany always says that in the West we live in a throwaway society. He glues every piece of trash back together, freezes stuff, and forgets about it for years. Recently, I disposed of some freezer-burned ice. It tasted kind of strange. Well, good for us—there’s bound to be a bunch of money to inherit someday. We have changed our consumption habits; you only live once.

HelpHelp, I can’t really figure out your father-in-law, he sounds like he’s very controlling. For me, those electronics store flyers don’t create any desire to buy. They end up almost unnoticed in the recycling bin. That’s it. We only deal with the topic of new things when the old one is actually broken.

You do too. They also sell a lot through classified ads or Mami Kreisel. But it doesn’t always have to be cheap. For example, he was too stingy to buy running pants and ordered them from China (eBay). When the item arrived and it was too tight, there was a fuss over 12.90€ (about $13.50) instead of, say, buying some at Aldi, which sometimes sells them for around 20€ (about $21) — and if it’s supposed to be stylish, then Nike for 45€ (about $47).
