Dear forum members,

I have purchased an apartment from a developer. The standard specifications are already quite generous (e.g., tiles in the size of 60x60cm (24x24 inches) as standard).

However, I have now chosen even larger tile formats. Do you consider the following additional charges for installation to be reasonable (pure labor costs, additional charges for other items are separate):
- Extra charge for laying floor tiles 80x80cm (32x32 inches) instead of 60x60cm (24x24 inches): EUR 22 plus VAT per sqm (square meter)
- Extra charge for laying large format wall tiles 120x240cm (48x96 inches) instead of 30x60cm (12x24 inches): EUR 93 plus VAT per sqm
We are talking about approximately 19sqm (204 sq ft) of flooring and 35sqm (377 sq ft) of wall area in two bathrooms.

These price increases seem extremely high to me.

I’m not actually aiming for that, but theoretically, I would be right, wouldn’t I? The wording leaves it open.
But 80/80 I do find quite nice.

For such large tiles, over 120x240cm (47x95 inches), you need 3-4 people for installation, which is probably still cost-effective.

I agree, 120x240 ranks in the category of luxury items. Prices for those can really skyrocket.

Thank you for your numerous replies. The 120x240 cm (47x95 inches) tiles look excellent in the shower – no grout lines, just the wall.

I asked at a tile specialist store (the one that also sells the golden faucets...). They said the installation costs are expected to be between EUR 80-110 per square meter (approximately 7.40-10.20 USD per square foot). However, my builder quoted me EUR 93 as an additional cost – which seems quite high. According to the tile store, the installation likely requires two workers instead of one.

For installing 80x80 cm (31x31 inches) tiles instead of 60x60 cm (24x24 inches), the same tile store would charge less than EUR 10 extra. So again, it seems the pricing was generously rounded up.

If you want them throughout the entire bathroom, this involves extensive cutting work that should not be underestimated. If you only want them in the shower, the price in relation to the material costs hardly matters. Or will it be more than 6 square meters (65 square feet)?

I received this information from a local tiler as well: 100 euros per installation plus materials. This is certainly subject to local variations and pricing calculations.
