Hello,

I spoke with my construction manager today about underfloor heating in the walk-in shower. He said it’s definitely possible, but since a different type of screed will be used there, there might be long-term issues at the transition. How have you handled this?

Good luck,

The statements are correct, and since every meter of underfloor heating in the bathroom counts, I would not even consider designing the shower without it...

When I had my bathroom renovated, there was no screed under the old shower tray and bathtub, and therefore no underfloor heating either. Since the contractor advised against patching (due to the risk of cracks and difficulties extending the heating circuit into the shower), I had the entire screed in the bathroom redone. During this work, the heating circuit was also completely reinstalled and now runs under the new level-access shower floor. The screed installer created the slope in one continuous pour, so the screed was not segmented. An expansion joint was not necessary, and there is only one heating circuit. However, I also have a towel radiator, mainly for towels but also in case the room doesn’t get warm enough (for example, during transitional seasons when the underfloor heating isn’t fully operational yet, but there are still cold mornings).

Hello, I have the following plan.
The bathroom will be renovated; old tiles from the walls and the old screed will be removed. I am planning a level-access shower.
Underfloor heating is required, including in the shower area.
Construction:
1. Insulation on the concrete slab.
2. System panel with 16mm (5/8 inch) pipes.
3. PE foil.
4. Dry screed 20mm (3/4 inch).
5. Tiles.
How can I create a slope in the shower area? A linear drain is planned, either from Schlüter or ACO.

Maybe lay an additional layer of 10mm (3/8 inch) Fermacell boards across the entire room and create the slope in the shower area?
