hausbaubodensee16 Jan 2013 14:16Hello, we are building a solid wood house and now our construction manager wants to know what type of lights, how many lights, where to place them, and so on.
This is overwhelming for me at the moment, especially since my husband is very busy with work right now and I want to take some of the load off him.
The thing is, in the upper floor, installing a spotlight requires significantly more effort than regular lights due to fire safety regulations since everything is made of wood. On the lower floor (office, 15m2 (160 sq ft) bathroom, hallway, utility room, large open area of 70m2 (750 sq ft) with kitchen, dining, living), we now have to decide between halogen or LED lights, how many spotlights, where to place them, what are the differences between halogen and LED, and whether there are any recommended manufacturers...
I have no knowledge about this at all and would appreciate any help...
Best regards!

I wasn’t able to identify a specific question in your message.
Determining the lighting is, of course, independent of the construction method. It’s also clear that installing recessed spotlights involves more effort in a solid wood house.
Your architect and/or electrician can certainly help you. The electrician especially will be able to assist with the number of fixtures and probably has some examples from previous installations.
For placement, your architect can advise you, or you will need to work with the furnished floor plan of the house and your experience from your current situation to find the best solution.
As an alternative, there are electrical planners and lighting designers. (If the house is close to Konstanz, there is a small lighting store right next to the ‘tall house’ that sells (expensive) lamps but offers (very good) lighting design services free of charge.)
Good luck
