Hello,

Our electrician is letting us down a bit. The following dimmer was installed:

Merten MEG5131-0000

Can I now safely buy LED bulbs, or is that not possible? I don’t want to spend money for nothing. So far, we have been using halogen bulbs...

We don’t have a turn function, we have a tilt function... standard from Merten.
Our electrician frowned when he heard about using LEDs combined with a dimmer.
The typical dimmer from the building contractor/electrician is usually not LED-compatible; it seems you would have needed to specify or order one separately, based on how he frowned.

However, it must be noted that a) the lamp itself and b) the LED bulb need to be dimmable.
We made sure of that and can only dim in two stages. But that’s no problem 😉 The lamp is almost always off anyway.

If you have an LED load of at least 40 W it should work. However, this is difficult to achieve with LEDs. Below that, it will probably flicker... Also, not a transformer, only direct 230 V LED. And of course, dimmable LED...

OK

I have a basic question. I have a standard switch. Can I simply replace halogen lights with LED lights?

My electrician says that I need to install a transformer everywhere.
