Hello.
I want to completely cover the back wall of my new garage with shelving. The wall is just over 5 meters long (16 feet). Until now, we had boltless shelves with metal shelves from OBI. I no longer like them because the legs stand on the floor and the shelves are noisy. The new shelving should be wall-mounted only and have wooden shelves. It would also be great if there were accessories available, such as a clothes rail or a shoe holder.
Can anyone recommend something?

I recently came across something interesting. I ordered from there myself, but only a clothes rail for wall mounting.
The company is called dpsshop and has an online store. Under shelving systems, you can find several items. I chose the 25mm (1 inch) pipe system. It feels very sturdy and well-made.

Basically, it’s something that any hardware store would carry in their range. We used it to build a flexible shelf unit in the bathroom, where we stored laundry detergent, towels, toilet paper, and so on.
I have to admit, I expected something a bit more “interesting.” 🙂I’ve had rather poor experiences with hardware store products, so I decided to try something from “Order in the House” as a test.
Of course, it always depends on what you want and how you intend to use it. For a garage, I PERSONALLY wouldn’t make any major investments – but I’ve always been more practical by nature anyway (my wife takes care of the aesthetics).
I PERSONALLY wouldn’t completely rule out heavy-duty shelving units. These shelves are also available with wooden shelves, which make less noise and offer plenty of storage space (you know that yourself). Two shelves of 2 meters (6.5 feet) each, with one (or two) 1 meter (3.3 feet) rods mounted between them for hangers. Underneath, a metal shoe rack that can be adjusted to the desired width. And that’s it.
The only issue that doesn’t quite fit: it stands on the floor. For ME, however, that would be the least of my concerns.
But if your car is so long that it no longer fits in the garage with a 40 cm (16 inch) deep shelf standing there, then I can understand your problem.

Custom shelves can also be found at tylko. As far as I can see, everything is configurable there. I came across the company because of a segment on Galileo. You can define shelf height, compartment size, and more. There is also a smart mobile app that lets you immediately see how everything would look in your garage. Google search: Tylko App. I like it!

Solution: metal cabinets!
Lots of space, everything stays clean, and they look better. Unfortunately, depending on the size, they’re not exactly cheap, but here’s a tip: if these cabinets have transport damage, you can buy them for a fraction of the original price. For example, mine each have a 4cm (1.5 inch) scratch in the paint. That doesn’t bother me in the garage, and I have to admit that more scratches will probably appear over time anyway.
For heavy items like car tires, boards, and so on, a custom-built frame is currently being welded to fit these things efficiently and save space. If anyone is interested, I can share some pictures.

You will eventually find it at Ikea or any other furniture store, as there is the option to make it with wood, and even in the cheaper range, there are quite a few options. Although I personally like the version with aluminum shelves very much because they are also easy to clean.
