Hello everyone, I have a question that came up during my kitchen project: What is the best way to securely fix the Ikea Metod baseboards so they stay firmly in place even on uneven floors, without wobbling or loosening over time?
My floor has some height differences, and I don’t want the baseboards to look crooked in the end or need constant adjustments. Are there any special tips or materials you would recommend to permanently fix the baseboards in a stable way without requiring a lot of effort each time? I’m thinking of practical solutions that can be done without professional tools. Thanks in advance!

Assembly foam is your best friend when it comes to filling gaps and small height differences.Oh yes, I completely agree! I was a bit hesitant at first because assembly foam is often used rather roughly, but it really adds a lot of flexibility, especially with baseboards.
The key is to apply only small amounts and let the foam dry slightly before pressing the board into place; otherwise, you won’t be able to make adjustments.
And if you trim and paint the foam afterwards, the result looks quite professional – so don’t be afraid of this DIY step! 😄
Thank you all for your many suggestions! To sum up, it seems especially important to:
- Level out unevenness using wooden shims or washers.
- Use flexible materials like mounting foam or mounting tape to compensate for small differences.
- For more significant unevenness, possibly apply leveling compound beforehand.
I’m still wondering whether mounting tape or mounting foam is better in terms of later removal—if I want to remodel the kitchen someday. Does anyone have experience with this? How easily can baseboards be removed without damaging them or the floor?
Looking forward to your tips!
