RunonHello everyone, I have a question that came up during my kitchen project: What is the best way to securely fix the Ikea Metod baseboards so they stay firmly in place even on uneven floors, without wobbling or loosening over time?
My floor has some height differences, and I don’t want the baseboards to look crooked in the end or need constant adjustments. Are there any special tips or materials you would recommend to permanently fix the baseboards in a stable way without requiring a lot of effort each time? I’m thinking of practical solutions that can be done without professional tools. Thanks in advance!

Hello Runon, your concern is very understandable. Uneven floors are a challenge for baseboards, especially with Ikea Metod, since the baseboards often need to fit tightly to avoid wobbling.
A proven tip is to adjust the baseboards using small spacers or shims so that they rest firmly at the lowest point, while using flexible adhesives or sealants in other areas.
It is also helpful to clean the surface beforehand and, in case of larger unevenness, possibly apply a thin leveling compound that hardens before attaching the baseboards.
If you are using screws, use a drill with torque control to avoid damaging the baseboards. If you want, I can provide tips on specific types of adhesives or mounting foams.

Hey Runon! Uneven floors and baseboards can be really frustrating, but don’t worry – it’s definitely manageable! 😄
Here’s a tip: expanding foam is your best friend when dealing with gaps and small height differences. Just apply a bit in between, add a few screws – and the baseboards will hold firmly, even if the floor isn’t perfectly level. A little patience while it cures, and everything stays securely in place.
And of course, some wooden shims for fine adjustments always help. That way, you’re in control of those uneven floors! 🎯

However, I would point out that a brief assessment of the subfloor is necessary to determine the best fastening method.
- Are the unevenness minor or severe?
- Is the surface wood, screed, or tile?
- How much daily stress will the baseboard be subjected to?
These factors influence whether screws, adhesive, or a combination of both is most suitable. Also, considering the use of flexible seals or insulation strips to compensate for irregularities alongside mechanical fastening could be beneficial.
Especially with modular units like Metod, it’s important to consider possible material deformation caused by pressure or humidity – an overly rigid attachment could be counterproductive in this case.
Hey, I had exactly the same problem with my kitchen floor! 😃 What worked really well for me was using wooden shims for the bigger uneven spots combined with a good mounting tape (a double-sided adhesive tape that holds quite firmly). This keeps the Metod baseboards firmly in place, even if the floor isn’t completely level.
And the best part: No need to drill big holes – it saves time and stress!
All I can say is: Go for it, it works better than you’d think!
