ᐅ Roller shutter box (also known as roller shutter housing or casing) is the enclosure that contains the rolled-up shutter curtain above a window or door. It protects the shutter mechanism from weather and dust while allowing the shutter to be operated smoothly. Proper insulation of the roller shutter box is important to prevent thermal bridging and improve the overall energy efficiency of the building. Installation requirements and dimensions may vary depending on local building codes and the type of wall construction.

Hello everyone,
what are the advantages and disadvantages of an exterior inspection cover for roller shutters? And is this type now commonly installed?
I only know about the interior ones (that’s what we currently have).
Looking forward to your answers!

But not everyone wants to either. 😉

This assumption makes me curious. Why would "not everyone" want a solution that is hardly noticeable to the eye and involves no effort in case of repairs?

I agree – my colleague had a nice board with screws in front and already had to work on it twice in 6 years... No longer looking good 😀

I think I misinterpreted Sebastian’s post and thought he also had one of those ugly boards with screws. But he actually wrote:

I have an access panel for that
In my circle of acquaintances, everyone has exterior roller shutters and is happy with them. One person doesn’t have any shutters installed at all. It also seems to be a matter of personal preference, although I believe that thermal bridging is a valid argument.

I personally find external roller shutters extremely unattractive – but thermal bridges are probably no longer a significant concern, right?

On the ground floor, we also have four windows without any roller shutters 🙂

...so I didn’t mean surface-mounted roller shutters (those attached, semi-circular boxes)...
Only the inspection cover is accessible from the outside and not from the inside. I wasn’t aware of that before. 😉
