Hello everyone,

Over the past few weeks, I have been trying to find replacement or additional doors for my older KALLAX shelving system, as some of the doors have been damaged by moisture. Unfortunately, I found that IKEA no longer offers replacement doors for older KALLAX models, and so far I haven’t had any luck with third-party suppliers either.

I am particularly interested to know if others in the community have faced similar issues and how they resolved them. Are there any specialists who focus on these types of replacement cases, or perhaps DIY guides for building perfectly fitting doors?

It is important to me that the new doors are compatible with the original sliding rail system, as I don’t want to modify the shelving unit. Additionally, it would be helpful if you could share your experiences regarding how replacement options vary depending on the production year or model variant.

Thank you in advance for your help, and I look forward to any useful feedback!

IKEA hardly sells doors for old KALLAX units anymore. It’s best to check on eBay, where you can often find used doors in good condition.

Building your own doors is possible if you are familiar with the track system, but it is usually time-consuming.

Hello,

I can confirm that IKEA hardly offers replacement parts for doors of older KALLAX models anymore. One approach I used myself was to carefully measure the door frames and have custom doors made by a carpenter. Although this is a bit more expensive, it ensures a perfect fit.

Another option is to look for Etsy sellers or specialized furniture restorers who often work with wooden panels and authentic hardware. It is essential to make sure the track system is compatible – otherwise, you might need to modify the shelving unit, which is not always desirable.

Your note about different model variations is helpful since the door dimensions for KALLAX may have changed slightly over the years. Therefore, I would recommend checking the instructions or product numbers carefully before purchasing new doors.

If you are interested, I can provide a list of reliable suppliers and contact details.

Good morning,

here is a brief overview of the process for obtaining replacement doors for older KALLAX systems:

1. Check the model: There are different generations of the KALLAX, and the rail system has sometimes changed between them. First, identify the exact model number or purchase receipt.

2. IKEA customer service: Contact IKEA directly, even if parts are not available online. Sometimes there are still leftover stocks in the warehouse.

3. Alternative suppliers: Besides a carpenter, you can ask furniture restorers, who often produce custom-made replacements and adapt the rails accordingly.

4. DIY doors: One option is to make simple doors from wooden panels and attach a compatible rail system. Make sure to maintain precise measurements so the doors operate smoothly.

Common mistakes include incorrectly measuring the rails or not considering the door thickness. The rail runs in a groove that must be milled precisely.

Personally, for an older model, I commissioned a carpenter to produce a custom replacement — the result was perfect, though not inexpensive. Hopefully, this helps as a guideline!

Exactly! I just ordered my doors last week and also noticed about a one-centimeter (0.4 inch) difference. But I managed to find a great option from a small manufacturer!

That feeling when the door fits perfectly is really great 🙂 No compromises when replacing parts.

So, everyone, don’t give up – often a bit of puzzle-solving and research pays off! Good luck to all facing the same issue!!
