Hello,

this is my first post, and I hope I won’t get criticized for this "silly" question here.

I bought a plot of land this year (950 m² (10,225 sq ft)) and plan to build a nice house on it in 2015. Not a prefab house, but one designed by the architect who also built my company’s building.

I have a girlfriend with 3 kids, so we need space… and I would like a large living room and a nice bathroom as well. It should have a hip roof, a bit of a Mediterranean style, and two stories.

I know these details are VERY limited, and I already have an appointment with the architect, but he is very busy and will get back to me when he has time (it’s not urgent anyway, there are still about 2 good years). But maybe someone can give me a rough idea of how much a house like this would cost! Excluding landscaping and exterior work...

Here are the facts / wishes:

about 300 m² (3,230 sq ft)
custom designed
high-end finishes for sure
nice / luxurious bathroom
hip roof
double garage

Thank you very much, I’m happy to answer any further questions.

Regards,
Armin

I am always amazed at how simple measures are enough to make plants winter-hardy.

I haven’t winterized my plants yet. The ones most sensitive to frost are inside, while the rest are protected on the terrace. As long as it doesn’t get really cold—meaning several nights and days at -5°C (23°F) or lower—I won’t do anything further.

Certain palm trees are said to tolerate temperatures as low as -15°C (5°F).

It doesn’t seem to be a problem with spare change 😀
I thought I read recently that you wanted a stylish bathroom. Do you have any photos of that as well?

I find it really interesting to see another update. May I ask if you could also give us a glimpse of the luxuriously announced bathrooms? What have you implemented? Special materials, a whirlpool tub, sauna? Best regards

Hello...

Yes, money wasn’t really the issue, but simply put, when you CAN, you don’t HAVE to! That happens more and more often... whether it’s with cars or other nice things you find appealing... maybe I’m a bit different in that regard, I don’t have big material desires because WHEN I could afford them, except if they really exceeded my budget. So far, I haven’t wished for, for example, a yacht for 10 million or a painting 😉

Pictures of the bathroom... I’ll do that! I wanted a natural stone bathroom, and that’s what I got. The slabs were cut from a large stone that we had looked at beforehand, it turned out great, I think. Whirlpool, sauna... not really my thing! But I do enjoy bathing when it’s cold, always about 10 minutes in a warm tub, fantastic! That’s why I chose a small tub (the narrowest available) so it fills up quickly!

We have our bathroom with natural stone, the bathroom for the two boys (tiled), and the girl’s bathroom... that’s tiled too. Plus a guest toilet and a small bathroom attached to the guest room, also tiled. I’ll take some pictures... from inside!!

Cheers,
Armin
