ᐅ Tiling Shower Partition Walls at Different Heights – How to Create Smooth Transitions

We want to tile as little area as possible in our bathroom. That’s the plan so far, but we’re stuck with the partition wall between the shower and the bathtub.

On the shower side and the end of the drywall partition, the tiling should be 2.1 m high (7 feet). On the bathtub side, ideally only 1.2 m (4 feet), the same height as the rest of the bathtub area up to the door.

But how do you handle the edge/corner of the drywall wall so that there is no unsightly transition between the areas tiled at different heights and everything lines up neatly?

Are there specific techniques, trims, or profiles for this?
If necessary, could a third drywall board be added in the upper area on the bathtub side to make the wall flush?

How have you solved this problem?
Or is it really simple and I’m just overthinking it?

Thanks for any tips and advice.

Yes, I was referring to the transitions between the areas tiled at different heights. The wall becomes thicker at the bottom.
The options are to accept this, or to tile 2.10 meters (7 feet) high everywhere, or only tile up to the bathtub height on the bathtub side (which is inconvenient because of splashing when the underage adventurer is sitting in the tub). Unless you have other ideas.

The bathtub will be shifted slightly to the right, centered between the partition wall and the room wall. However, I would still like to have some tiles there.

There used to be tiles with a finishing edge that you could use for that. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen those in a long time.

I also don’t really like tiles that just "stop" and form a step… In one bathroom, we had the wall plastered up to the height of the tiles (plastering was needed anyway… otherwise, this is a complex solution) –

here you can see my "hippie solution" for a different spot

Wall with a decorative strip of white, round buttons above tiles.

For this, the plaster had to be recessed a bit (removed) by scoring with an angle grinder.

Times and tastes have changed 🤨
I still have the ones from a few years ago and like it when it looks handmade… 😉
