Hello,

I had my kitchen installed in my new apartment, and the more I look at it, the more I notice that the kitchen fitter (not from IKEA) made some mistakes. For example, he installed the sink and attached the new Atlant siphon, but left the outlet connected to the overflow opening from the old Atlant siphon. In theory, I could replace it, but I can’t remove it because the sink is already installed and sealed to the countertop with silicone.

Is there a way to use the old connection at the overflow with the new Atlant siphon or possibly connect this white hose to the new one?

I would be very grateful for any help. I really don’t want to remove the entire sink again.

Best regards,

Hans

Hello,

Before I start working on it myself, I would call the installer back again. The new siphon is probably Lillviken (Atlant is no longer available).
You can also remove the overflow without dismantling the basin, but whether you can fit the new one depends on the space between the basin and the wall.

Which sink is it? There are sinks that come with an adapter piece for the overflow because the one from the trap doesn’t fit at all. In that case, the old one must be used.

Hello,

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I don’t want the kitchen fitter here anymore unless it’s really necessary. The sink is Boholmen (but the old version). Bought it about two years ago. The overflow from the Atlant siphon is still attached. Is there an adapter solution for that? Otherwise, I would just try to rig something. The overflow only really matters if there’s an urgent issue and the basin overflows. Otherwise, it’s relatively unimportant, right?

Good luck, Hans

It needs to be properly sealed, otherwise you'll have a huge mess if anything leaks into the overflow.
You should be able to install the overflow without having to remove much. Having long arms or a second person can be helpful.
Have you taken a look at the installation instructions?

Hello,

I have finally managed to install the overflow. However, I occasionally—and just now again—have the following issue: the water either doesn’t drain or drains very slowly, it bubbles and gurgles as if air is being sucked in. After filling the entire basin and then draining the water all at once, the drain works well, and sometimes it continues to work fine for a while afterward. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? Did I do something wrong? Earlier, when the dishwasher drained, the water rose up in the sink. Could it be that something is wrong with the trap or perhaps further along the drain pipe?

Here is a photo of the trap:
Under the sink, sanitary pipes and drain lines are visible.

Good luck,
HansHubert.
