Hello everyone,

Since I have no prior experience, I would like to get some general information.
Our new building will be heated using an air-to-water heat pump.
What would generally and overall be the advantages, potential savings, and costs of installing a photovoltaic system on the roof? Is it worthwhile or not?

@CrazyChris did you claim the input VAT for your system, or did you choose the flat-rate scheme?

Nothing yet, the system will be installed in March and the feed-in will start in May/June.

But mathematically, the pre-tax option followed by a switch to the small business regulation (KUR) is the best. Bureaucratically, however, it also involves more effort. I still have to think it over.

The fact is, for our house (from 2021 onward), we might not even need to consider the question of whether to install a photovoltaic system or not. If there is no longer any feed-in tariff, then the question "When does it pay off?" becomes irrelevant, and it simply becomes unprofitable for private homes.

There is also a positive side to this. The roof tiles become more visible and prominent again.

However, the downside is that you can no longer make money or securely invest your money with a photovoltaic system.

The effort is mainly in the first year because starting a new business requires monthly pre-registrations. In the second year, you can apply to be exempt from the pre-registrations, so then only the annual VAT return remains.
I use the tax savings software in the Plus version, which includes a photovoltaic module. It works well.

Then you have to recalculate. The era of storage systems is about to begin.
Currently, when assessing the profitability of a system with storage, you have to deduct the loss of feed-in tariffs if you store and use the energy yourself.
But of course, it won’t be as favorable as it is now.

@halmi - my calculation: payback in year 11 (regardless of 2% or 0% electricity price increase) including VAT & income tax (20 years regular taxation, no short-time work allowance)

If the Renewable Energy Act feed-in tariff is discontinued, a free market will almost certainly emerge where electricity can then be sold at the stock market price. This is not necessarily the worst scenario.
