Hello everyone!
Four weeks ago, we planted and reseeded our lawn.

Unfortunately, the ENTIRE lawn is heavily overrun with weeds.

The grass doesn’t stand a chance to grow properly.

Last Saturday, I sprayed Roundup weed killer on the lawn. The weeds are slowly dying and turning yellow.

The grass that managed to grow is still standing strong.

What should I do next?

How can I remove the dead weeds within 1-2 weeks?

Can I simply use a scarifier (lawn dethatcher) to treat the lawn?

I want to overseed afterward.

How would you proceed?

Scarifying and overseeding are always a good idea. Before that, apply 1-2 mm (around 0.08 inches) of sand, which will settle into the gaps created during scarifying. For spring fertilization, I always use a lawn fertilizer combined with a weed killer. It works quite well.

What is the purpose of the sand?

This helps prevent waterlogging in heavy soil and thus avoids moss growth. Of course, if you live in a sandy area, it does not make sense.

If you have just seeded your lawn, it doesn’t make sense to damage everything again with a scarifier. You can remove the weeds manually and, above all, provide the lawn with enough nutrients to encourage dense growth and suppress the weeds.

Roughly pull out the big weeds first, then apply Compo weed killer, and afterward fertilize if you haven’t done so already.

For the future, mow at least once a week to encourage a dense grass cover.

Unfortunately, I only have 200m2 (2,150 sq ft), but currently, everyone who visits is impressed by how green it is.

The grass has grown thick and is still improving. Unfortunately, I have other work to do on the house at the moment; otherwise, I would try mowing twice a week.

Actually, I should have mowed again today, but I didn’t have time.
