Hello,

Last year, a landscaping company paved several areas and pathways in our garden. No sealing was applied to these surfaces. According to the company, this was "not necessary." We are now beginning to regret that...

This year, we have noticed grass and weeds growing through the joints in several places. Removing them with a joint scraper is almost impossible because the joints are very narrow, and the roots grow quite deep.

The fact is, something needs to be done. I have already considered some options like flame weeding and pressure washing. What are your experiences? What methods provide lasting results?

I am now thinking about thoroughly cleaning everything and then applying a joint sealant afterward. What type of material would you recommend for this?

Best regards

Oh wow, something is growing on the house in the countryside... big catastrophe.
If this is not allowed, then try:
Sprinkle salt on the growth, it will soon turn brown and then disappear.
Seal the joints with Dansand.
Please read the instructions on how to do it.
Do exactly as described.

No, no salt, it damages the ground...
If anything, I would burn it off.
For exactly that reason, we don’t have paving on the terrace but WPC decking boards, and the path through the lawn is made of stepping stones only, since plants grow naturally around them anyway.

You can’t seal anything there; weeds will grow even on fine gravel or sand. Pouring boiling water on the weeds also helps, but it is labor-intensive.

Pressure washing
Is fun
Makes a huge mess (yes, the kid in me shows)
Lasts about 1 year
Faster and, in my opinion, more effective than burning
No environmental damage like with Roundup, vinegar cleaners, salt, and similar products

I do this every 4-5 years at my parents' place when the plants have grown so much that my father gets caught on them.

It’s just nature. The seeds come from above 😉
