ᐅ New Kallax doors don’t fit, IKEA customer service is unhelpful – any experiences?

Hello everyone,
I recently ordered new doors for my Kallax shelving unit from IKEA, which were described as a perfect fit. Unfortunately, these new doors do not fit my existing Kallax unit at all. The dimensions do not match, and the mounting holes are offset, so I cannot hang or properly adjust the doors.
I have already contacted IKEA support, but the responses were unsatisfactory and rather evasive. They mostly said that the doors should be compatible and suggested I double-check the product specifications – which I did, without success.
Has anyone had similar experiences? Are there alternative solutions or tricks to install these doors anyway? Or could the compatibility issue be due to a problem IKEA has not disclosed?
Looking forward to your feedback and advice!

Hello everyone,
I would like to add a more technical perspective on the Kallax doors:
IKEA has used different materials for manufacturing the Kallax doors over the years: previously MDF with a melamine coating, and more recently sturdy particleboard or fiberboard with slightly different thicknesses and tolerances. These changes have led to a difference in the door dimensions by a few millimeters, which is reflected in the shifted drill holes.
When these drill holes are offset, it means that the hinged doors may no longer fit perfectly or might rotate slightly. Depending on the model, the hinge mechanism has also been partially redesigned to improve stability.
If this happens with your shelf, you should definitely check whether the hinge set of the new doors fits your older shelf unit. If not, you have two options:
- Keep the old hinges with existing drillings and redrill the new doors (pay attention to the drillability of the material).
- Install new hinges and replace the entire mounting hardware (more labor-intensive).
In any case, when working with wood-based panels, it is advisable to avoid splitting the material – therefore, use sharp drill bits, drill slowly, and measure as accurately as possible.
I would be interested to know: What door size and design did you purchase? And how old is your Kallax shelf?
Then I could provide more targeted advice on possible solutions.
