ᐅ My Kallax shelf wobbles most when fully loaded – how can I reinforce it?

Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Kallax shelving unit that I have filled with quite heavy books. I have noticed that the shelf wobbles the most when it is fully loaded, especially when I walk past it or touch it. The unit stands on a solid floor, but the lateral movement is clearly noticeable. My question is: How can I reinforce my Kallax shelf so that it remains stable even under full load? Are there proven methods or reinforcements that can be added without damaging the appearance of the shelf? Shelf supports, wall fastenings, or other constructions – I am open to all suggestions that are practical to implement and provide long-term stability.
A quick update from my side: I have now fixed the shelf to the wall using brackets and attached a 6 mm (1/4 inch) plywood board as a back panel. Additionally, I installed adjustable feet with felt pads underneath to compensate for unevenness.
The wobbling is significantly reduced, and the shelf feels much more stable and secure. Thanks to everyone who provided detailed advice!
If anyone has further recommendations or can share insights on long-term load capacity and durability, I am open to suggestions.

The wobbling has been significantly reduced; the shelf feels much more stable and solid. I'm glad to hear that. For long-term durability, avoid localized overloading beyond the manufacturer's recommended load per shelf.
Regularly checking the screws is also advisable, as slight loosening can occur over time due to use and material stress. A well-maintained shelf will remain stable in the long run.

Just for motivation: I also had doubts at first about whether wall mounting would look intrusive, but with slim brackets you hardly notice anything, and the effect is very reassuring. A sturdy piece of furniture like that also helps reduce everyday stress caused by tipping or wobbling. 🙂
