ᐅ My KALLAX is stuck after installing the carpet and won't slide back.

Hello everyone,
I have a rather specific problem with my IKEA Kallax shelf, which I recently assembled right after installing a new carpet. Specifically, I aligned and fixed the shelf on the freshly laid carpet. Since then, I haven’t been able to push it back or adjust it because it somehow “sticks” or gets stuck. Even when I try to manually push it backward, it doesn’t move an inch.
The floor is level, and the carpet itself isn’t very thick, but it is probably slightly thicker than the previous flooring. I wonder if the sticking might be related to the friction between the bottom of the shelf and the carpet, or if something went wrong with the positioning surface.
Has anyone experienced a similar issue or knows how to make the shelf movable again without having to completely dismantle it? I would also appreciate tips on how to prevent this in the future, especially regarding the combination of carpet and Kallax.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

If you placed the shelf against a wall on both sides, the clearance can also be reduced. That fits, I already mentioned this indirectly, but to make it clear again: walls can be uneven. Measure to check if the KALLAX really has enough clearance.

When setting it up, be careful not to press the shelf completely into the carpet, as this can easily reduce its mobility. Thanks for the detailed tip, that makes sense. I did press the shelf firmly onto the carpet, probably to ensure stability. Now that I’m reading your advice carefully, I realize that I should lift the KALLAX and place it on felt pads.

Place thin wooden or plastic sheets (e.g., furniture sliders or thin particle boards) under the feet or the shelf to provide a solid and smooth base.I’ll try that today and report back afterward. Thanks also to everyone else for the quick and helpful suggestions so far!

I actually pressed the shelf firmly directly onto the carpet, probably to ensure stability. That is exactly the reason why the problem occurred. Stability is important, but not at the expense of functionality. The base area needs to provide some leveling so the shelf can still be moved.
Regarding stability: If you press down hard, it can cause a kind of “sinking” on carpets with a deep pile, which prevents movement. It might be useful to permanently combine the base with a suitable board or gliders to achieve both stability and mobility.
I recommend preparing the base in advance when placing it on carpet so the shelf doesn’t get stuck. A practical solution would be, for example, thin MDF boards with non-slip bottoms. This will eliminate friction loss.
